Understanding through Play
With the rise of e-commerce, homogenization of brands, and “smart products”, User Experience (UX) research methodologies are being increasingly adopted outside of the context of art and design. To help in the understanding of touchpoints and problems that users face, researchers may utilize customer journey maps. However, journey mapping is not perfect. 95% of publications in the field of UX stem from explicit measurement approaches, only a narrow group of users can be accounted for, the practice can be time consuming, and not all institutions can benefit from this process.
As a response, I wanted to create a toolkit of props, where each piece represented intangible ideas or attributes so that through visualization, customer journey mapping could be more humanizing.
